PELVIC FLOOR

What is the Pelvic Floor?
EVERYONE HAS A PELVIC FLOOR.
Your pelvic floor consists of connective tissue and muscles that help support the pelvis. The pelvic floor muscles are a group of muscles that originate from the pubic bone to the "tailbone". They have three main layers that act as a hammock for the pelvis.
The main purposes of the muscles include:
- Pelvic Organ Support
- bladder, bowel, internal reproductive organ support
- Sphincteric Function
- ability to control your pee, poop, and pass gas
- Spine and pelvic stability
- pelvic floor works in coordination with our diaphragm, abdominal muscles, and back muscles to help stabilize our pelvis and low back, improve daily movement, trunk support, and spine protection
- Sump Pump
- assists with circulation by pumping blood back up towards the heart
- Sexual Function
- plays a role in your ability to have pleasurable intercourse and also painful intercourse
